This crossbow is amazing! I was able to put it together in about 15 minutes and shoot it soon thereafter. When constructing the crossbow you can tell that the parts are high quality and well thought out. It took me 4 shots to sight the scope in with field points and 2 shots to then sight in with broad heads; which hit dead center and 2 inches low at 20 yards. Do not shot at the same spot twice at this range or you will be buying more bolts. I have shot it out to 50yards with 4 to 5 inch groups fairly regularly. I love the fact that I can change the string in the field! No missed hunting days for me. You have to buy the bow stringer but it is worth every Penney. It is so easy to shoot my 5 year old daughter can shoot it with a rest and hit the center bulls eye at 20 yards. Make sure the young ones keep their fingers down below the string!

I was concerned about the width of the bow which has been a non-issue. It is a pleasure to stalk around with. I was concerned that after changing to the Flemish string it only shot 305 fps. The Axiom dropped a 300lb bore at 10′ with a neck shot in place. The Bolt with a 150gr boltcutter attached, knocked the hog over! It is plenty fast and plenty deadly. When you do not hit bone expect the bolt to go right thru the animal. I ended up putting luminocks on the bolts so I could stop buying new ones to replace the ones that would disappear into the thick, dark brush after shooting game. I was also concerned about the draw weight which is a non-issue with the string cocker. It could be a 300lb draw and I don’t think it would be a problem.

I spent more than I wanted too on this crossbow and was considering ones that were faster and heavier for less. The quality product reviews, the hunting videos on Excalibur’s web site, the ability to be self sufficient in the field if a string breaks, combined with how light it is changed my mind. If you have a chance, go to Cabela’s or Gander Mountain and pick one up to compare with the less expensive and more expensive ones. It sealed the deal for me. It feels like a much more expensive crossbow and the craftsmanship is evident. It was worth the extra money and I have a freezer full of meat to prove it. This crossbow will probably outlast me.

This package is listed by the manufacturer as a “price-point” bow focused on people who want to try a re-curve crossbow without breaking the bank. I believe that, with this bow, Excalibur has under promised and over delivered!

The bow only comes as a fully equipped kit with a scope, quiver, arrows, and cocking aid packed in a single box. Assembly took less time than watching the supplied instructional DVD and everything needed for assembly was included. The bow is light, weighing in at just over 6 pounds, and the balance is slightly weight forward which helps to damp recoil. Fit and finish is better than many “top of the line” crossbows. In an apparent move to keep costs low Excalibur replaced its usual extruded aluminum rail with a fiber reinforced plastic unit that is very solidly built and cross braced. The stock and limbs are camouflaged in “Real Tree”, the rail is matte black, and there were no flaws in any surface. The trigger was light (less than 3 pounds), very crisp, and had no noticeable creep. The manual safety is easily accessible, positive acting, and large enough to use wearing gloves.

The supplied scope is designed specifically for the bow shooting 300fps and is very clear, adjustment is 1 click per half inch at 20 yards. The scope was close to zero out of the box and sighting in to dead on only took 4 shots. It is a 2.5 power cross hair scope with aim points for 10 through 50 yards which proved to be very close at all ranges.

The bow easily produced the accuracy guaranteed by Excalibur right out of the box with groups at 20 yards under 2 inches. At 50 yards my groups opened up to about 4 inches but that was expected because of wind drift, still extremely accurate.

If I have any negative comment it would be that the bow without silencers is moderately loud when compared to my PSE compound but I believe that this is offset by the speed and ease of use. Excalibur offers a damping kit for the bow that may be a good investment if sound is an issue.

To sum it all up, if you want an extremely accurate, light weight, affordable crossbow I can heartily recommend the Excalibur Axiom SMF package.

After reading every review I could on the Excalibur Axiom SMF Crossbow Kit, I could not find any negative reviews. So, I bought one, and boy was I surprised. The bow was everything I read about. Accurate, light weight, simple and easy to assemble. After assembling, it only took 2 shots and I was dead center on every shot at 20 yards. After that the scope is automatically centered at 30 and 40 yards.

Another feature I liked was you only have to remove 2 screws on the limbs and the whole thing will fit in a 2 gun rifle case instead of the large crossbow case. Reassemble in the field and you are still hitting the bulls eye on every shot. Another selling point was if your string breaks in the field, it can be replaced without any effort or special equipment. I could go on and on. Just remember all the reviews you read are the really true.
